Become an Editor

HCL Press invites experienced scholars and clinicians who wish to contribute to academic publishing by joining our editorial teams. Editors may be appointed either through direct invitation based on subject expertise or through submission of an application with a detailed curriculum vitae. Final appointments are made at the discretion of the Editorial Selection Panel.

Meeting the eligibility criteria outlined below strengthens the likelihood of selection but does not guarantee appointment.

Typical Eligibility Criteria for Editor Positions

Applicants are generally expected to demonstrate:

• a doctoral qualification such as MD, MS, PhD, or equivalent

• specialized knowledge in the journal’s subject domain

• a strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals or books

• previous experience as a reviewer or editorial board member

• awareness of scholarly publishing processes and ethical standards

• genuine commitment to the responsibilities and time requirements of editorial work

Primary Role and Responsibilities of Journal Editors

The editor plays a central role in shaping the scientific quality and reputation of the journal. Key expectations include:

• promoting the journal within the academic community

• attracting high-quality submissions from established and emerging researchers

• developing and maintaining a reliable pool of reviewers

• ensuring that reviewer feedback is constructive and respectful

• making fair and timely editorial decisions based on scientific merit

Editors are encouraged to act as academic leaders within their specialty, supporting the visibility, credibility, and growth of the journal globally.

Operational Responsibilities

Editors may be responsible for:

• initial assessment of submitted manuscripts

• coordinating the peer-review process through associate or section editors

• making acceptance or rejection decisions based on reviewer comments and editorial judgment

• addressing ethical concerns or suspected misconduct in collaboration with the publisher

• communicating regularly with authors, reviewers, publishers, and production teams

Editors also work closely with production staff to plan issues, track manuscript progress, and ensure adherence to journal policies and page limits.

Editors are expected to be familiar with the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, which outline ethical expectations for editors, authors, and reviewers.

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board consists of professionals who work alongside the Editor to advance the journal’s mission. Board members may:

• advise on journal strategy and development

• support special issues and thematic sections

• recommend reviewers and editorial policies

• take responsibility for specific subject areas

Members are selected based on recognized expertise and international representation within the journal’s scope. Experienced reviewers may be invited to join the board. Decisions regardingappointment or removal of board members are taken collectively as per publisher policy.
